We all hear the grousing about how print has changed and it’s not like it used to be – and it’s true. Yet, we are not the only industry affected by global societal changes. Consider the PC maker which is now being confronted by tablets; or how about the changes we have seen in broadcast television; or how about the retail shopping industry?
In a recent article in the WSJ, the writer does a nice job of detailing the challenges retailers have with the changing landscape of consumers’ shopping habits. Boomers want to touch and feel the product while asking questions of the sales reps. Their children are using their mobile devices and friends to help them make decisions, often without ever touching/feeling the product. Retailers are seeing their world change as fast, if not faster than other industries. Needless to say, if you’re in retail, you’re probably telling your children to get into another industry. Have we heard this before?
