Go undone. That’s the way 2016 has been for me. I was starting my retirement happy dance when I was called back to replace my replacement – no regrets – but the blog fell by the wayside. Now PIA MidAmerica has a new leader, and I think Teresa Campbell will do great – but I’m sorry I cannot say that about our election process. WHAT A MESS.
If you would have told me six months ago that Donald Trump was going to be the Republican leader and Bernie Sanders was going to give Hillary a run, I would have asked what were you smoking. I don’t think Bernie is going to make it – but that means it’s Hillary vs. Trump. That’s a choice? No, the world is not going to come to an end if either one gets elected. We might not like the results, but whomever gets elected reflects the fact that a significant number of people wanted that person in office — although they may be surprised at what they get. Just ask many of the folks who initially voted for President Obama hoping for “change.” The reality is that our system of governance is about equilibrium and the three branches helps to get us there – slowly.
And then there’s the Supreme Court.
I felt that Scalia was a brilliant jurist – too conservative for my taste – but brilliant and he will be missed in what he brought to the court, whether you loved him or hated him. What I don’t like right now is the games being played in the Senate. You have a job to do – do it. If you don’t like the President’s selection – vote him down, but don’t hide behind the mantra of letting the people speak. Give me a break.
OK, I’m going to take a nap now. I understand that’s what retired people do.
